Trimetazidine and the metabolic profile of ischemia

نویسنده

چکیده

Trimetazidine, a metabolic agent, acts at the cellular level to improve myocardial metabolism at the time of ischemia. A recent Cochrane Collaboration review of its use in stable angina has confirmed its effectiveness in reducing anginal attacks and nitrate consumption, at the same time as improving exercise performance with minimal adverse events. Additional reports identifying improved left ventricular function in cardiac failure suggest a potential prognostic role. Heart Metab. 2006;32:26–27.

Effects of trimetazidine on mitochondrial respiratory function, biosynthesis, and fission/fusion in rats with acute myocardial ischemia

OBJECTIVE Myocardial ischemia affects mitochondrial functions, leading to ionic imbalance and susceptibility to ventricular fibrillation. Trimetazidine, a metabolic agent, is clinically used in anti-anginal therapy. METHODS In this study, the rats were orally treated by gavage with trimetazidine 10 mg/kg/d for 7 days, and the effects of trimetazidine on mitochondrial respiratory function, bio...

The importance of a metabolic approach to anti-ischemic protection

Trimetazidine acting as a metabolic agent reduces symptomatic and silent ischemia – the total ischemic burden. Its cellular action in improving myocardial metabolism is cardioprotective and may explain the improvement in left ventricular function seen in the failing heart as a result of its use. The metabolic approach to myocardial ischemia is becoming increasingly important, with symptomatic a...

From recurrent ischemia to ischemic heart failure: new data on trimetazidine

Over recent years, the management of chronic coronary disease has improved markedly as a result of the increased use of surgical and percutaneous revascularization procedures. However, the prevalence of recurrent ischemia, together with the growing population of individuals surviving acute coronary syndromes but with serious myocardial damage, increases the prevalence of ischemic left ventricul...

Role of Trimetazidine in Coronary Artery Bypass Graft Surgery

Trimetazidine is a drug that has been used to reduce the damage of reperfusion injury, which is a mechanism of oxidative aggression that occurs in coronary syndromes, angioplasty procedures, as well as in cardiovascular surgeries. Seeking to improve myocardial protection during procedures that involve reperfusion, attention was recently turned to research on cytoprotective drugs which act on se...

Trimetazidine protects against cardiac ischemia/reperfusion injury via effects on cardiac miRNA-21 expression, Akt and the Bcl-2/Bax pathway

Trimetazidine is a piperazine-derived metabolic agent, which exerts cell protective effects and has been reported to be efficient in the treatment of chronic stable angina pectoris. In addition, it has been shown to exert protection against acute myocardial infarction. The present study aimed to investigate whether trimetazidine protects against cardiac ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury, and to...
